The Duke Ellington School of the Arts (DESA), originally built in the 1890’s, is the only high school in the District of Columbia that combines full college preparatory curriculum and intensive pre-professional arts training. The National Landmark building has undergone a modernization in which new design elements were incorporated while also preserving historic building elements.

Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC) was hired to provide 3D model analysis to compare the steel fabricator’s Tekla fabrication model with the steel being installed in the field during construction. ARC utilized 3D laser scanning to compare the field installed steel with the fabrication model to generate a deviations report. This information was used to make adjustments to the fabricator’s model and drawings to ensure additional steel being fabricated would fit properly when installed.
